Who knew these guys would be back so soon?  The cicadas are back, making their way to the East Coast!  My "Sicka Cicadas" video is getting hit again (yay!!).  I thought I'd have to wait 13 years!  Anyway, it's been fun.  I have gotten all kinds of comments on YouTube (some I can't publish here) from why am I writing a song about bugs, to "How to write a Song."  My top two favorites were "Pheobe Boofay" and "Rebeca Black's mother."  Ouch!  I didn't think I be best known for a song about bugs, either!!  I'm seriously kind of grossed out by them!  Anyway, stay tuned!

Hi.  I got to play at a house concert yesterday, run by Terry and Wanda Seay.  It was a really fun night and a large variety of songwriters.  It was kind of cool to play at someone's house, with people who were not just industry people.  It was fun to chat with them, sell cds and have some great food!  Just booked a show for Thurs. Dec. 13th at the Bluebird Cafe.  More details to come on that one!

Happy April 1st!  Fun to watch the ACM's tonight.  In honor of that, I am posting a new song I am really proud of called "The King of Music Row."  I got to write it with the amazing Tom Douglas who wrote "The House That Built Me."    It is a story about songwriters, but I think the message can translate to anyone - that we all have a story we were meant to tell.  Hope you like it.

Can't believe it's almost the holidays!   Love this time of year but it always seems a little crazy, too!  I have a fun show coming up at the Bluebird Cafe on Wednesday, November 23rd at 6 p.m. (4104 Hillsboro Road, Nashville, TN - www.bluebirdcafe.com) - the night before Thanksgiving.  I will be "in the row" with Joseph Wooten, Allie Farris and Blake Chaffin.  It is always kind of cool to play during the holidays...it feels more festive!  My dad and uncle are flying in from California, so I am excited about that!  Not sure when I will be making the food for Thanksgiving, but I'll figure it out! There is always Publix, right?

I have been in California on a whirlwind trip, combining music, reunions, family and some other stuff!  All of it has been so much fun!  It was great to see a lot of people at my high school reunion, on the beach on a beautiful summer's night and listen to the English Beat!  So much fun!  Tomorrow I am off to Santa Rosa and will be playing at my brother's new club, Doc Holliday's Saloon (Formerly Rita's)
138 Calistoga Rd at Hwy 12 in the St Francis Shopping Center
Santa Rosa   707-537-0308  Come on out - should be lots of fun! Good excuse to see the wine country!

Ok, so it has been really hot here in Nashville.  I'm just saying!  I know it has been super hot in many places around the country!  With that out of the way, I will say that things are marching along!  I am heading to California to visit friends/family and also play a super fun show in Santa Rosa, CA (Doc Holiday's Saloon) in the beautiful Sonoma Valley.  It will be a full band show!  I'm so used to acoustic shows, so this will be cool!  I also just found out I have a song on hold with a major label artist, so keep your fingers crossed!  Oh, I started an artist page on Facebook, so please go to www.facebook.com/kathyashworth and "LIKE" me (I really hate doing that!).

My friend and co-writer Eric Paslay has his first single out as an artist called "Never Really Wanted."  It is a great song he co-wrote with another awesome writer and mentor, Walt Aldridge.  Eric just heard it on the radio for the first time yesterday.  I am really excited for both he and Walt.  I think it will be a smash!

Check out Eric on a song we wrote called "Sugar"  which I know is a hit for someone out there!

On July 2nd I went to the U2 concert in Nashville, TN.  It was awesome!  One of my favorite parts was when a guy in the front row of the mosh pit got pulled up to play guitar.  I didn't know this at the time, but he was holding a sign that said, "Blind guitar player..."  Anyway, as the band was bowing and waving goodbye (after 3 hours and one encore), Bono kneels down and says, "what do you want to play?"  Then security guards help this guy up on stage and he proceeds to play as Bono sings.  After the song, he hands the guitar to Bono and Bono gives it right back to him.  That was so cool!  I could only imagine how cool that was for him!  I used to dream that I was backstage at a Go Go's concert and Belinda Carlisle lost her voice and I got to fill in for her.  I think I even wrote a paper about it in school!  Anyway, I love U2 and think it is amazing that Bono totally gets his responsibility as a public figure with a huge audience.  He really tries to make a difference around the world and can also make a difference in a fan's world as well! That ROCKS!

I posted the "Sicka Cicadas" video on this very cool website for up and coming directors and actors.  I think it is run by Will Ferrell, so he is on there a lot.  If you go to www.funnyoride.com/kathyashworth, you can go to the website and vote (hopefully funny).  There are lots of funny things on there - my friend and actor Robyn told me about it.  It's always good to laugh!
